It is important to be aware of the numerous requirements imposed by your local council including the following..
1. Some properties will require planning permission to be converted – this is usually dependent on the number of bedrooms being created.
2. Some councils (particular in cities) are now limiting how many properties can be converted. This is due to the council’s requitement o have a mixture of properties including larger family homes.
3. There are numerous design requirements that have to be met including minimum room sizes, provision of amenity space, inclusion of shared kitchen/living/dining areas, cupboards and storage areas and sufficient space for pins, parking and cycle storage.
